I will never understand how people make /any/ clothes in summer look good. HOW ARE YOU NOT DRENCHED IN SWEAT AND MISERABLE?

I DON’T KNOW AND I WISH I KNEW THEIR SECRETS. Last summer I volunteered work on a student film, which meant a lot of standing/sitting around outdoors in 90-100 degree weather, and ALL of the other women working on it always looked cool and cute and polished instead of dripping in sweat and vaguely grimy and overheated. HOW DO THEY DO IT I DON’T UNDERSTAND.

Oh my god, I think you are really going to love Star Trek when you start watching it! No holodecks until TNG, but seriously, Star Trek <3 18th century naval warfare and it really shows.

isnt part of that just the scope of the movie though? it doesnt bother to show anything besides action so of course you have no idea what goes on in the rest of their lives

I mean … yeah, I guess in some ways it’s a criticism of the same thing but from a different angle?

But it does upset me that they’re mostly not even very good at what they do in the actiony parts and they make lots of bad choices and even Spock and Uhura find it appropriate to bicker about their relationship in a fairly intense and fraught professional situation! THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN IN REAL TREK. ;_;

So on further reflection, I’m not sure if it was that or how just about all the characters (possible exceptions of Bones and Scotty, sort of) in the movie are unprofessional and kind of terrible at their jobs and seem to have no outside interests or lives outside of what they do on the ship (except for drinking and having sex I guess).

Like, to me, everyone in Starfleet (at LEAST the officers, but even the enlisted dudes) should be like “oh yes I’m working on a cure for cancer in my spare time and I play chamber music and paint landscapes and keep up with professional literature in three fields that are not my own and of course participate in holodeck reenactments of 18th century naval warfare” and that’s ON TOP of being the actual best at their actual jobs. They’re just … better. (Because they don’t have to worry about money!!!!! Okay but that’s another topic for another day.)

Possibly, I suppose. I wish my insurance would cover meds, because I think it’d like to try one, but considering that I already take two medications daily and will have to do so for the rest of my life, I’d rather not add anything else, especially not that will be more of a problem if I can’t pay for it. :/
